Exclusive Day Wine-Tours for Your Group
Single-day wine-tours are popular in Cyprus, so we offer a choice of routes in the Western part of the Island where most of the vineyards and wineries are located, spread around the foothills of the Troodos Mountain range.
..
Cyprus’s world-famous 12th Century amber coloured sweet wine called Commandaria, is still much in demand – from it stemmed the Cyprus Sherry-styles, labelled as Emva Cream, Monte Cristo and Mosaic which grabbed a slice of the UK fortified market in the late 20th Century. Those days are gone. They have been replaced by modern wine-makers – now well over forty of them based around the foothills of Troodos Mountain range. They produce some incredible reds, whites and rose styles, many of them award winners!
There are two main wine routes in Cyprus which stem from the central southern city of Limassol and from the southwest city of Paphos.
From Limassol, the routes include the Krasochoria Lemesou, going northwest where there is a plethora of wineries, charming scenery and a great choice of traditional cuisine in some of the village tavernas. In the Kommandaria over a dozen villages make the noblest pudding wine available and along the Pitsilia route there’s an abundance of beautiful scenery all respectively stretching towards the Troodos mountains.
Routes from the southwest city of Paphos encompass: the Laona-Akamas, the Vouni Panagias Ambelitis and the Diarizou Valley. The Laona-Akamas route is rich in culture & wine traditions where there are full bodied white wines made from Xynisteri and a rare-reds made from the Maratheftiko grape, and villages stretch north towards Polis just south of the Khrysokhou Bay. The Vouni Panagias Ambelitis route has a mountainous terrain with many local wines and the Diarizou Valley route shows a plentiful array of vineyards.
We offer a few “Anytime” single-day wine-tours for minimum groups of six people around the Lefkara / Kato Drys area in the province of Larnaca, Limassol and Paphos wine routes.
Our single-day wine-tours provide a taster of what our full Wine-Tour holidays can offer you (https://www.winesandtours.co.uk/cyprus-wine-tour-days/). The Troodos mountains and their foothills are so beautiful that our single-day wine-tours make for a lovely day out, even if members of your group are not wine enthusiasts.

For an idea, the following is an example of a typical day out to the Lefkara / Kato Drys area:
Lefkara is a charming village located in the foothills of the Troodos mountains and is famous for its lacemaking. When walking through the village you will, in the warmer months, see women sitting outside their front doors needle in hand, exercising their craft. Lefkara is, incidentally, the setting of the TV series “Πρώτη Σταγόνα” (First drop) – a delightful romantic comedy.
There are two wineries in the area, Dafermou and Christoudias and we like to visit both with a splendid “Meze” or “Buffet” lunch in between (wine included)! Sometimes we eat at one of the winery restaurants and sometimes we go to an outside Taverna such as “Platanos” named after the huge Plane tree growing in the garden restaurant. We make time to take a walk around Lefkara before moving on to our second winery.
It may happen that one of the wineries has a function on our chosen day and it may not be possible to visit both wineries. In such a case we take our guests on an alternative interesting visit such as The Bee and Lace museum in Kato Drys. Kyria Elli, the owner, is a fount of local knowledge and apart from learning about bees and lace it is quite fascinating to listen to her stories.
In the wineries, each producer will show us round and tell us of their special approaches to winemaking and the blends or single varietals that they use. One of them produces the only Assyrtico vines in Cyprus (That’s the grape variety for which Santorini is so famous). This is not used to make a varietal wine but a lovely blended wine style of predominantly Chardonnay and Assyrtico with a touch of Muscat. After each winery tour, our producers usually offer a “wine tasting” of their individual styles and an option to buy direct, which normally reflect good savings on retail rates.
