CHAMPAGNE 3-day Wine Tour

CHAMPAGNE Suggested 3-day Wine Tour

Champagne – a superbly Fizzical Experience.

Whether or not you will be celebrating an event this year – here is our Suggested Champagne 3-day wine tour – planned to start on a Monday morning and continue through to mid-afternoon two days later, on a Wednesday.

To offer you greater flexibility, our Scheduled wine tours have evolved into Suggested wine tours whereby you are free to choose the dates for this wine tour from Monday to Wednesday. We need a minimum of six participants to make this wine tour viable and plenty of notice (minimum of 90 days) to secure hotel accommodation.

On timing, we suggest you aim for May to October.  Normally, the wine harvest in Champagne starts late in September, when all Champagne houses are busiest.  Your chosen dates will enable us to send you a quote which largely depends on your chosen time of travel.

We shall meet at 9.30 on a Monday in Moussy, just 15 minutes southwest of Epernay outside our selected hotel, Auberge Champenoise, your base for two nights.

(For your info., Moussy is about 300 kilometres or 3.5 hours driving time from Calais).

Throughout the three days, we will transport you by air-conditioned minibus – so by avoiding any need for you to drive your own car – you will be able to taste many differing styles of Champagne (made from Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay) throughout our selected 3-day wine-tour at venues in the Vallée de La Marne, Cȏte des Blancs and the Montagne de Reims. Of course, you will also experience the delicious local cuisine, an abundance of fine scenery – with time to relax too!

During your first day, we will introduce you to two grower-producers, first at Champagne Francis Orban in the Vallée de La Marne in Leuvrigny for a vineyard visit, winery tour to see the stages of winemaking and a tasting of Pinot Meunier Champagnes afterwards. We will later have lunch in the Cȏte des Blancs, after some sightseeing.  Around mid-afternoon, you will meet our next grower-producer Didier Pierson at the Premier Cru house of Champagne Frerejean Frères in Avize for a vineyard tour and tasting afterwards. Later we will be taking a scenic route via Cramant back to Moussy by 5pm, for you to recuperate and relax, prior to dinner in the hotel restaurant.

For your second day, we will drive you to Reims – first to visit the Grand Marque Champagne producer Veuve Clicquot when you will see their cellars prior to tasting their Champagne. Afterwards, we will take a short walk to see the famous Reims Cathedral (entry is free) prior to a light lunch nearby. After lunch, our driver will take you on a sightseeing tour through Verzy, Ambonnay, Bouzy, Ay and Dizzy on our way to briefly visit the Abbaye d’Hautvillers (resting place of Dom Perignon and where he cellared his first bottles) which is a former Benedictine abbey dating back to the year 665 AD.   Our arrival back in Moussy will be at around 5pm – allowing you time to freshen-up before 7pm when we’ll be dining out somewhere special within half an hour’s drive.  Afterwards, we will of course return to Moussy.

On our final day, we will first go to Epernay, to drive along Avenue de Champagne where you will pass by some famous Grande Marque Champagne Houses, like Moët et Chandon, Perrier-Jouët and Pol Roger on our way to Bisseuil (east of Ay and on the southern edge of the Montagne de Reims).  Once in Bisseuil, we will be visiting Champagne Bauchet to see their vineyards, tour their winery and cellars, and taste their Champagnes over lunch afterwards. You will be returned to Moussy by 3.30pm when our Champagne wine-tour finishes.
