To avoid worrying about what time your plane might arrive at Oporto to coincide with our timings, you are invited to make your way on the Sunday 15th September to the Hotel Pedras Rubras (very close to Oporto airport) any time you wish. If you are there by 19:30, please join us for dinner at the lovely nearby Malheiro restaurant. We ourselves will be staying at the Pedras Rubras Hotel overnight, too.
The tour proper starts at 11am on Monday 16th September when a coach will take you from Pedras Rubras hotel (conveniently situated by the airport) to Taylors Port Lodge in Vila Nova de Gaia. We’ll have an aperitif on the lawn, then lunch in the terrace restaurant with its splendid vista of Oporto and the river Douro. After lunch there will be a tour of the lodge followed by a tutored tasting of five ports. You’ll also have a chance to visit the Taylors Shop.
At around 4pm we’ll check-in at the excellent 5 star Yeatman Hotel nearby for one night only; (http://www.the-yeatman-hotel.com/en/), for you to relax and freshen up. In the evening we’re off for a dinner boat cruise on the Douro an experience in itself. At the Yeatman you’ll have full access to both the indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and you may be pleased to know that Free Internet is provided.
Ready with packed luggage, we’ll leave at 09:15 to visit Quinta da Aveleda (www.aveleda.pt), one of the most well-known wineries in the Vinho Verde. We’ll lunch in Fafe and move on to Vinhos Norte for vineyard and cellar tour and tasting of their wonderful vinho verde wines. Late afternoon we move on to the Quinta do Pego (http://www.quintadopego.com/), a delightful four star and award-winning country hotel near Regua. It hosts a pool, bar and excellent restaurant where we will dine in the evenings. It has a stunning outlook over the Douro. This is our base for the remainder of the holiday.
Each day the coach will take us to at least one winery for a tour and tasting of some splendid wines including, of course, port wines, lunch at selected locations, a boat trip and some sight-seeing.
To complete the tour on the Saturday 21st, the coach will take us to Pinhao station for a picturesque train journey back to Oporto where you’ll be free for some sight-seeing or simply for a spot of shopping – before making your own way back to the airport.
Total cost of the tour (excluding air fares) £1500.00 (pounds) based on two people sharing a room.
Extra night on the 15th September available at the Pedras Rubras including dinner at a nearby restaurant £75.00 (pounds).
