Kent ME18 E-Bike Wine Tour
We meet at 10:00 on a Wednesday at Wateringbury railway station (Postcode ME18 5EA on the Medway Valley line, car parking generally available). You will be greeted by your wine tour guide and the respective e-bike hire company (Country Hire & Go). After about 20 minutes e-bike instruction & test riding (if necessary) – we head off on a circuitous route west towards our first venue at Yotes Court (near West Peckham where a recent TV series “The Larkins” was filmed) and later to our afternoon venue in Mereworth.
Like all our UK single-day wine tours, we can only operate with a minimum of six (6) adult participants, which for this route, there are only 6 places available (due to e-Bike hire accessibility). All our UK single-day wine tours normally start at 10:00 and finish at 17:00 hours, at the latest.
In considering the English weather pattern and the English vine growing season, we have planned to conduct ten separate single-day e-Bike wine tours on the ME18 route, starting on Wednesday 11th May which continue fortnightly up to Wednesday 21st September 2022.
The stream that flows through Wateringbury, which rises in the village of Swanton (in the parish of West Peckham) once powered a few watermills – one of which lies in the grounds of Mereworth Castle. Mereworth Castle, a grade1 Palladian country house, is owned by Mahdi Al-Tajir (a former United Arab Emirates ambassador). He also owns the Highland Spring bottled water company. Sadly, Mereworth Castle is generally not open to the public.
Our visit at Yotes Court, includes a vineyard tour, followed by lunch and wine tasting of 4 newly created still wines – whose brand is closely-associated with horseracing.
Later we cycle a short distance to visit Mereworth Wines, established in 2015 by a Cornishman, where you will experience an hour’s winery tour with a sparkling wine tasting and other products afterwards.
As carrying away any number of bottles you decide to buy from a wine producer or winery is unsafe or prohibitive on an e-bike, we would encourage you to place an order for home delivery!
Our return to Wateringbury station follows an easterly route via Nettlestead.
Your guide, e-bike hire transport, all planned winery and other visits, lunch, and wine tastings.
