Ideas on what to expect on our “Appledore Thursday” e-bike vineyard tour:

E-Bike in the vineyard
The first 15 minutes are reserved for firm instructions on e-bike capabilities. If you have not ridden an E-Bike before then – for safety’s sake we suggest you take a test ride, before leaving.
In due consideration of the English weather pattern and the English vine growing season, we have planned twenty-three guided e-bike vineyard tour dates on our Appledore route during our 2023 season, running weekly every Thursday from 20 April through to 21 September.
All our UK single weekday guided vineyard tours normally start at 10:00 and finish at 17:00 hours; the respective seven-hour day includes two wine producer visits and lunch in a vineyard setting.
When everyone is ready, we set off on our hired e-bikes to visit the award winning Gusbourne Wine Estate via a route taking us through Appledore village (just over 3 miles away / about 20 minutes e-biking). We join their “Vineyard Tour” starting at 11:00 hours.
This tour lasts for two hours and includes a walk amongst the vines, and a winery tour, with a tutored wine tasting afterwards, in their tasting room (The Nest).
Whilst this well-respected English wine producer is better known for their Sparkling Wines, they now also produce Still Wines.
As carrying away any number of bottles you decide to buy from a wine producer or winery is unsafe or prohibitive on an e-bike, we would encourage you to place an order for home delivery!
After the Gusbourne comprehensive tour finishes, we follow an easy twenty-five-minute picturesque cycle route to our second wine producer venue, just under four miles away to Woodchurch Wine Estate.
Upon arrival we will briefly meet Graham Barbour (owner) and then tuck into a delightful charcuterie lunch with a refreshing glass of wine, overlooking their 12-acre vineyards. Later, Graham will present a tutored talk about his still and sparkling wines, during which you will be offered a tasting of them all.
Thereafter, we take a gentle circuitous sightseeing e-bike route back to our meeting point at Appledore railway station. Our picturesque e-biking journey back to Appledore station follows a southerly route via Shirley Moor and then skirts around Appledore and on south to see the marsh isolated 13th Century St. Thomas Becket Church near Fairfield. The last bit of our circuitous cycle route goes northeast to Snargate and left onto the B2080 to Appledore station (in all from Woodchurch around 10 miles e-biking distance).
