RIOJA WINE TOUR – 4 days from eve of 21st September 2016
..
Have we got a treat in store for you?
Our Rioja Tour starts on the evening of the 21st September with a fabulous Wine-and-Food pairing Pincho Bar Crawl under the guidance of a professional wine educator, Jose Ramon Berger.
After meeting at 8pm at the reception of our hotel, the Carlton Rioja, in Logroño, we visit the Logroño wine museum and participate in some interesting interactive wine games there. Jose talks to us about how one can identify good wine and food matches, and then we set off to put theory into practice with a visit to six Pincho bars where we try out six different wines with six different pinchos (tapas-like snacks, usually on a skewer).

The next day at 10 am (morning of the 22nd) we will go to Haro where we will visit the CVNE Bodega, a winery steeped in history for a tour and wine-tasting. Then we will have lunch at the rather splendid restaurant, La Vieja Bodega in nearby Casalrreina. A fascinating visit of the Muga winery follows in the afternoon back in Haro. They are unique in that they are the only winery in Rioja to manufacture their own barrels. In the evening we will have a light meal out in Logroño.

On the 23rd we go to visit Ruiz de Vinaspre and one of the wineries in the pretty wine village of Samaniego. After lunch we plan to visit the Bodegas Ramon Bilbao. Later in the afternoon, we’ll visit the medieval town of Laguardia. In the evening we’ll eat out either at Laguardia or Logroño.
On the 24th we’ll visit a rather fascinating winery with a boutique hotel, Eguren Ugarte. This has natural cellars under the rocky ground and it stores wine for private customers, in gated holdings. After lunch we’ll go back to Logroño to give you some free time to explore this lively town during the Annual Harvest Festival. It is the only evening where dinner is not included in the tour price*. If you prefer to join us, for your exploring, you are welcome.
The next day we just have time to visit the Bodegas Franco Españolas on the other side of the river at Logroño. Those who are stopping the tour here will be taken to Logroño station unless other arrangements are agreed. For those who want to continue with us to Navarra, free transport will be provided to our chosen hotel, the Parador in the town of Olite. It is a Sunday and it will be a leisurely ride with a lunch stop on the way.

What is included and what is not included?
Flight arrangements and/or transport to the start and from the finish points are not included (though if you have come via our 3 day river trip from Portugal, transport right up to Logroño is included in the cost of the River trip). Otherwise, all transport, accommodation, meals*, winery visits, and other visits are included from the tour start to the end point. However, there is just one exception – being that one evening is kept free for you to visit the delights of the nearby town of Logroño and as such – we do not include dinner* on that evening.
